With its pristine parklands, beautiful lakes and rivers and outstanding recreational facilities, it's no wonder that the Manitowoc-Two Rivers area has become one of the Midwest's hottest tourist stops and best places to live, work and play. Description: This 12-mile paved recreation trail along the scenic lakeshore connects Manitowoc's downtown river walk with down­town Two Rivers. Coffins Marsh: 5,434 acres abutting the Manitowoc River via Mud Creek. This area features furbearers, waterfowl, deer and upland pheasant hunting. The Collins refuge attracts thousands of visitors every year to watch the annual waterfowl migrations.

Cleveland Swamp: South of Cleveland, this wooded area features deer, small game, woodcock and turkey hunting opportunities.

Kiel Marsh Wildlife Area (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/wildlife/reclands/recmaps/kielmarsh.pdf ): 883 acres along the Sheboygan River. This area features waterfowl and furbearers.

Point Beach State Forest: (http://www.reserveamerica.com/jsp/commonpage.jsp?goto=/usa/wi/poin/newindex.html) 2,555 acres to hunt early and late bow season deer, gun deer, waterfowl and small game.

Killsnake Wildlife Area (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/wildlife/reclands/recmaps/killsnake.pdf ) 5,777 acres located three miles from Chilton on which to pursue pheas­ants, deer, waterfowl, small game and furbearers. The Killsnake River, Cedar Creek and the South Branch of the Manitowoc River converge here to form the Mani­towoc River.

The lake is known for walleye, largemouth bass, black crappie, northern pike, perch, bluegill and rock bass. Use of motors, except for electric, is prohibited. Maxi­mum depth is 49 feet. Access off of North Lake Road.

Tuma Lake (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0087900z.htm ): A 15-acre lake with public access and four car-trailer units, the lake is known for wall­eye, bass, bluegill, perch, crappie and northern pike action. Use of motors, except for electric, is pro­hibited. Maximum depth is 30 feet. Access off of West Tuma Lake Road.

Bullhead Lake (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0068300z.htm ): This 67-acre lake accommodates 30 car-trailer units, and is well known for walleyes, perch, crappies and bluegills. Max­imum depth is 55 feet. Access off of County Highway JJ.

Gass Lake: (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0067100z.htm ) The 6.5-acre spring­fed lake with space for eight car­trailer units offers bass, bluegill, perch and crappie fishing opportu­nities. Maximum depth is 24 feet. Access off of Gass Lake Road:

West Twin River (http://www.manitowoccounty.com/recreation/westTwin.asp ). The site offers a handicapped-accessible pier. Sea­sonal fishing for trout and salmon annually draws thousands of an­glers to the area, but northern pike, channel catfish and bass offer year-round opportunities. Ac­cess off of County

Hardaub Lake http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0067200z.htm ) The 38-acre lake with room for eight car4railer units is known for large northern pike, bass, bluegills and perch. Use of motors other than electric is prohib­ited. Maximum depth is 59 feet. Ac­cess off of Hartlaub Lake Road.

Carstens Lake: (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0066800z.htm ) The 20-acre lake has room for 15 car-trailer units. Northern pike, largemouth bass and bluegills make up the majority of the catch. Maximum depth is 30 feet. Access off of Carstens Lake Road.

Wilke LakeL http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0058000z.htm ) The 97-acre lake with space for 10 car-trailer units offers largemouth bass, northern pike, bluegill and perch fishing opportuni­ties. Maximum depth is 22 feet. Ac­cess off of Ucker Point Creek Road.

Shoe Lake(http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0046700z.htm ): This 9-acre lake offers a shoreline with little development. The lake has some bluegill, large­mouth bass and occasional north­ern pike fishing opportunities. About 100 feet of public lake front and space for 15 car-trailers offer many points of public access. Use of motors other than electric is pro­hibited. Maximum depth 34 feet.

Cedar Lake (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0045100z.htm ): At 139 acres, Cedar is the largest inland lake in the county. Northern pike, largemouth bass, perch, crappies and bluegills offer year-round angling opportuni­ties. Maximum depth is 21 feet. Ac­cess off of Cedar Lake Road.

Pigeon Lake: (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0064000z.htm ) The 77-acre lake is a popular spot for waterskiing and boating in the summer, with 10 car­trailer spots. Ice fishing shanty towns form in the winter to capitalize on the populations of walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass and panfish. Maximum depth is 67 feet. Access off of Pigeon Lake Road.

Spring Lake: (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0063700z.htm ) An eight-acre lake with space for eight car-trailer units is provided at the lake access. Northern pike, largemouth bass and bluegills are found in the lake. Maxi­mum depth is 24 feet. Access off of Spring Lake Road.

Long Lake: (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0077500z.htm ) This 117-acre lake of­fers fishing for northern pike, largo­mouth bass, walleye, perch, white bass, bullhead, crappie, bluegill and pumpkinseed from shore or boat. Maximum depth is 30 feet. Access off of Boot Lake Road.

Horseshoe Lake: (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0064200z.htm ) A nine-acre lake offers spring rainbow trout as well as northern pike, largemouth bass, crappie and bluegill. Use of motors other than electric is prohibited. Maximum depth is 50 feet. Access off of County Highway XX.

Silver Lake: (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0067400z.htm ) A 55-acre lake offers shore and boat fishing for northern pike, largemouth bass, perch and bluegill. Access off of State High­way 151. Maximum depth is 43 feet.

Cherney Maribel Caves: (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/er/sna/sna48.htm ) Cherney Maribel Caves County Park occupies 75 acres on the West Twin River north of the Village of Maribel in the town of Cooperstown. The cliffline contains small caves and crevasses, and the upland area is de­veloped for picnicking. The area is an especially important geological area formed by glacial activity. The area offers hiking, picnick­ing, grilling and fishing opportunities in addition to restrooms and playground equipment.

Long Lake County Park: Access off of County Highway R. In addition to fishing opportunities, the 4.5-acre park offers public access for boating, and has been developed into a picnic area. Grills, play­ground equipment, a well and a toi­let complement the area.

Lower Cato Falls: Access off of Boot Lake Road. This 84-acre park on the south side of the Manitowoc River is scenic with wooded hills, rock outcroppings and a wide variety of trees. The Manitowoc River flows through a narrow gorge that has formed unique rock formations and 'a waterfall. Picnicking and hiking are among the most popular activities here. The upper part of the park has a full playground, grills and restroom fa­cilities. And 2,040 feet of shoreline in the lower part offer opportunities for fishing. Access off of County Highway JJ.

Silver Lake Park: (http://www.wisinfo.com/heraldtimes/news/archive/local_13167772.shtml ) This 12-acre parcel is a project in the works. Leased to the county by the Francis­can Sisters of Christian Charity of the Holy Family Convent, the coun­ty is developing a rehabilitation plan for the park and plans to treat the lake for its abundant rough fish and algae problems. Horseshoe Lake: (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/lakes/lakemap/0064200z.htm  )An 8.5-acre park offering an attractive picnic area with grills, well and playground equipment developed on the hill­side, as well as public access to a fishing pier and public toilets. Walla Hi County Park: (http://www.manitowoccounty.com/recreation/walihi.asp ) Located about 4 miles east of Kiel, the 160­acre park features a scenic drive through the kettle moraine area, a great diversity of environments and several small springs. Fishing, hiking, picnicking and cross-country skiing are the most popular activities at the park. The park also offers grills, playground equipment, a well, picnic tables and toilet facilities. The park features an abandoned fish hatchery.

Fischer Creek Park: Access off of Mueller Road. This 109-acre park just north of Cleveland offers
more than one mile of Lake Michi­gan shoreline, nature trails and a di­verse ecology, from ancient sand dunes to wetlands, hardwoods and bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan. Access off of County Highway LS.

Neshota Park: Two Rivers-  Two miles of white sand beach, playground, picnic area and shelters. Lifeguard on duty in a swimming area. Open 6am - 11pm.

Manitowoc County offers a wide aray of courses for the golf enthusiast. Golfers can try their hands at everything from playing a pair of challenging par 3 courses or a round on he same layout that hosts a profess­ional golf tour stop to simply getting a taste of each of eight courses n the county. There are also plenty of leagues field every summer - morning, afternoon and evening - which are s much fun as they are competitive. They are great ways to play some good golf and make a whole lost of new friends.For those new to the sport, many of the courses feature driving ranges and putting greens to perfect your craft, while for those seeking , lessons there are plenty of top-flight professionals ready to help some one get started.

City of Manitowoc Recreation Department,The Manitowoc Parks & Recreation Department is committed to improving the quality of life for all Manitowoc's residents and visitors. This is accomplished by providing and promoting well maintained parks/facilities and public open spaces as well as offering a variety of lifelong recreational opportunities and special events for people of all ages.
The Department consists of three divisions. The Parks Division maintains over 800 acres of parklands, boulevards and waysides; operates the Lincoln Park Zoo; and serves as Manitowoc's Forestry Division. The Recreation Division organizes, plans, and develops a diversified program of recreation activities for all ages including adult team sports and fitness; youth instructional and team sports activities; and special events. The Senior Center Division plans, organizes, and supervises activities for adults over age 55.

Program booklet distributed May and November, which includes program specifics. The department sponsors many special events such as "Music Under the Stars" and "Kids Nights" in Central Park mid-June through August, Ice Cream Sundae Thursday, Independence Day program, and the "Spooky Spectacular" Halloween party. .Meeting and banquet rooms, a gymnasium with auditorium, racquetball court, exercise room, and locker rooms are available. Call the Recreation Dept. for information on scheduling and rental rates.  The Senior Center also provides daily programs, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Programs and services for older adults include noon meal or home-delivered meal, transportation, health and legal services, support groups, educational programs, craft instruction, and recreational activities.

4-H Camp TaPaWingo, 915 W. TaPaWingo Road, Mishicot, Contact: 755-2785
A total of 78 acres nestled along the East Twin River which provides a beautiful setting for outdoor activities. Housing facilities include the Rensink Lodge (capacity for 64 people) with its huge fireplace and 11 rustic cabins. The Buchholz Nature Center and Wagner Memorial Building (used for arts and crafts) also provide additional resources for user groups. Available for summer activities is an obstacle course, tennis/basketball/volleyball courts and a softball diamond. In the winter, there are ski trails, tobogganing, innertubing, snowshoeing and ice skating available. Reservations are required. Open to the general public, schools, churches, youth groups, retreats, and special needs groups. Also, senior citizens, family gatherings, club meetings, natural science workshops and company picnics.

Manitowoc County has been recognized by the
Wisconsin Conservation Congress as one of the founding fathers of organized Sportsmen's Clubs in the State. Historical information indicates as early as 1907 there were sportmen looking to manage and conserve the outdoors in Manitowoc County. Currently there 26 organized sporting clubs in Manitowoc County representing over 3,000 households. The members, men, women and children support a variety of specific sporting activities and local areas. They all work together through the Manitowoc County Fish & Game Protective Association and meet monthly to discuss the needs of conservation and the rights of sportsmen and woment. The organization holds over 450 acres of public land that can be used by area sportsmen. These clubs offer a variety of activities from simple meetings and networking, to shooting sports and sporting education. There are meetings throughout each month at club houses around the County. If you enjoy hunting and fishing there is bound to be a club for you.

Auto racing

The 141 Speedway (http://www.racingonline.com/141/ ) is located four miles north of Francis Creek on County R and offers racing eve. Saturday night from April through September with competition in the Mid-American class, Super Stock class, Mini-Stock class and Hobby Stock class. The Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Club offers a racing schedule beginning in April and continuing into September at various race­tracks in eastern Wisconsin. The club, which runs Winged Super Modifieds, Limited Late-Models, Super Stocks and All-American Mighty 4's, holds a quartet of shows at the Manitowoc County Fair­grounds throughout the summer, while also running regularly in Ply­mouth, Chilton and Luxemburg. Professional Golf

The National Golf Association/Hooters Tour makes a stop in Mishicot at the Fox Hills Resort Na­tional Course during the summer. The four-day tournament, wich in­cludes a qualifying event and a pro­am, is free to the public and is a great opportunity to see profession­al golfers who are on the verge of earning their PGA cards. Cycling

The Maritime Bay Bike Classic (http://www.internationalcycling.com/venue/manitowoc.shtml)has become a staple of summer fun in Manitowoc County. Held every July, it is part of a series of races around the Midwest, which draws top professional cyclists from around the country. In addition to the pro event, there are plenty of divisions for all ages of cyclists, who pedal through downtown Manitowoc in front of usually very large crowds.

Fishing Derby

The Northeastern Wisconsin Salmon Derby and the Two Rivers Kiwanis Fishing Derby are two of the largest events on Lake Michigan every year, drawing anglers from all over the state and country. The Northeastern Wisconsin Salmon Derby will be held July 2-4 in 2004 and is based out of Manitowoc, while the Two Rivers Kiwanis is held annually in mid July.

Tennis

The Brutal Wear Adult Open is a three-day event which draws some of the top tennis talent from northeastern Wisconsin and from around the state. Com­petition is held in men's and women's singles and doubles divi­sions for players of every age and skill level. There is also a Brutal Wear Junior Open held the week­end prior to the main event. The event takes place in late June.

There is also the Manitowoc County Amateur Open, which is held annually in August and is also open to men and women of all ages and skill levels. Competi­tion is bracketed in singles, dou­bles and mixed doubles competi­tion See also YMCA and Two Rivers Recreation Department.
