Small Business Committee Mission

The Chamber's Small Business Committee will identify the needs of local small business then develop and implement ways to address those needs through member services and programs.

Goals 2002/2003

Goal 1: Survey Chamber small business members regularly to determine their needs and wants.

  • Conduct a survey of Chamber small business every other year (2002, 2004, etc.). Focus groups will be organized for alternate years.
  • Use small business committees from other chambers, and other resources to gather ideas for potential new services.
  • Include an evaluation form as part of all small business seminars and programs.

Goal 2: Sponsor regular seminars and round table meetings that address issues important to small businesses.

  • Develop a seminar schedule based on member surveys, evaluation forms and other information.
  • Continue to develop and promote the Chamber Cafe program among Chamber members and nonmembers.

Goal 3: Annually recognize two successful small businesses that are Manitowoc/Two Rivers Area Chamber members with small business of the year awards.

  • Continue to evaluate the entry form and criteria to insure ease of application yet gathering comprehensive information.
  • Recognize and promote winners as much as possible to add value to the award.
  • Supply winners with a camera-ready winner's logo for their advertising purposes.
  • Recognize all applicants with a framed certificate of achievement.

Goal 4: Recognize and promote the efforts of member small businesses during National Small Business Week.

  • Have an annual recognition event (picnic) during this week.
  • Work with local media to promote and recognize small businesses.

Goal 5: Keep Chamber members and the public informed of the activities of the small business committee.

  • Promote committee activities and programs in advance through flyers and newsletter articles.
  • Include a small business update in the Executive Directors column of the newsletter.
  • Promote committee activities and programs through a page on the Chamber web site.

Goal 6: Further develop the use of current technology, such as computers, Internet, E-mail, etc., to better meet the needs of members and increase communication and networking opportunities.

  • Develop a small business web page off the Chamber web site to provide program information, updates to members, activity summaries and links to other sites of interest. • Put program flyers on-line to allow members access to on-line registration for seminars, awards, etc.
  • Use E-mail more as a communication tool among members and to provide increased access for Chamber members to reach us.
